Is Technology replacing humans
i know its a wierd title ..... just that i have started to notice it now more closely. Well yesterday i made this trip to "Home Depot" store in chicago(its a place that has all the stuff you need to build/renovate ur home from home appliances to furniture to almost anything). anyhow i went with my dad to buy some sanitary and stuff so once we were done with selecting the stuff the next step was to pay for it. Like every other store we went to the counter to pay and guess what there was no human to recieve the payment and do the billing instead the counter said "Self Counter" and there was this machine with a bar code scanner. At first i was a bit confused i thought the machine would only accept credit cards or any other plastic card form but i saw people at other counters with cash in their hands so i said lets give it a try and see what happens. i selected English on the LCD for instructions (after memoni, urdu ... english being my third language) and put my items on the scan machine the price appeared on the LCD and now it was time to pay and the screen prompted me to select a medium in which i would like to pay and obviously i had to pay cash so i selected CASH on the touch panel and then put the dollar bills in a side panel that accpeted CASH since there was no change involved as i paid the absolute price therefore there was no cash for me in the bottom shaft when the transaction was done a white slip came out from the machine detailing the particulars and taxes and thats it i was done with the payment and proceeded to the EXIT...anyone reading this might not find this a big deal in chicago as the CTA buses also and electronic system but its not that high tec and besides in buses u are paying ur fare while here u are shopping with little or no human intervention at all. cool haan. what do u think.... this is the place where technology just doesnt stay in labs its APPLIED.
